Special message from conference chair

Recent rapid advancements in high-power laser systems have made high-strength optics a critical component in determining overall system size and reliability. Thanks to continued research in coating materials and improvements in thin-film production technology, we can now achieve mirror damage thresholds exceeding 200 J/cm² in the near-infrared (NIR) region.
However, despite this progress, challenges remain. The long-term reliability of optical components is still limited, and a significant drop in damage threshold at shorter wavelengths prevents furtherr increases in optical intensity. As a result, the intensity delivered to optical components has not substantially changed in recent years.
The Pacific Rim Laser Damage (PLD) Conference 2025 plays a key role in driving forward the future of high-power laser applications. This year, we will focus on the detailed conditions of dielectric coatings and the development of advanced optical components that can push the boundaries of laser intensity.
The video on the right shows one of our test facilities at ILS/UEC. We are conducting long-term laser damage testing with over 10⁵ to 10⁶ shot histories. These results, and other significant findings, will be shared and discussed in depth at the PLD 2025 conference.
